CAN Bridge

Due to the size and cost constraints imposed by the 5-pin M12 connector used by other Tritium devices, the LCD displays use a 10-way IDC ribbon cable, allowing easy routing around the confined areas typically found in a vehicle dashboard. To adapt the M12 bus to the IDC bus, we provide this product, a CAN-CAN bridge, which as well as the mechanical connector adaption, also has the function of protecting the main M12 CAN bus from faults on the ribbon cable, such as may easily occur if the ribbon is pinched or abraded.

The Tritium CAN bridge has the following features:

• Fused power connection between primary (M12) and secondary (IDC ribbon) busses
• Transmission of all traffic on primary bus to secondary bus
• Blocking of messages from secondary to primary busses - to prevent 'loops' in the CAN traffic
• Fail-safe CAN drivers, such that a fault on one bus cannot take down the other
• Can run multiple LCD displays from a single bridge
